Claypave is an Australian company privately owned and operated by a small group of "hands on" people. We specialise in the manufacture of clay pavers, and are the market leaders in paver quality, service and innovation. Our extensive product range includes Domestic and Commercial Pavers, Large Format Pavers, Refractory Bricks and Accessories. The original company, Rylance Collieries and Brickworks began operation in the 1880's with our current refractories plant being built at Dinmore near Ipswich in the 1930's. The current owners took over manufacturing operations in 1985.
The new company made a strategic decision to focus primarily on the manufacturing of quality pavers. This proved so successful and demand grew so dramatically that we were able to build the first dedicated, state of the art paving factory in Australia in 1988. Demand continued to grow so dramatically that it was decided to again increase our production capacity. The opening of our second tunnel kiln and dryer in 1994 effectively doubled our production capacity enabling us to cope with the increased demands for our products.
Changes in consumer trends to larger format pavers has meant that Claypave further expanded its production capabillites to enable the production of 300 x 300mm pavers. To get into this market Claypave's shuttle kiln and dryer system was completed February 2001. The kiln was able to burn between 500m2 and 600m2 of Megapave at a time and able to cycle 3 burns per week.
Innovation and improvement are driving forces at Claypave and in 2005 we installed state-of-the-art robotics and presses to enable us to make repressed 400 x 400mm and 300 x 300mm pavers - a WORLD FIRST!!!
Today Claypave employs over 200 people and has distributors in most Australian States as well as Japan, South East Asia, Pacific, North America, Middle East and Europe.
Product
Claypave has a unique manufacturing process that first extrudes the billet, but then represses it in custom built machines giving a paver that is accurate in both size and shape. It also allows us to provide the smallest spacer lug on any paver on the market.
Our state of the art manufacturing processes allow Claypave to produce not only a high quality clay paver, but we are producing products that most other manufacturers cannot. Our sizes include 230 x 115mm, 230 x 230mm, 300 x 300mm, 400 x 400mm and 460 x 230mm. These sizes, coupled with the unique colours we achieve with our local clays, create a product that we are very proud of and that is much sought after throughout the world.
To complement our extensive paving range, we make all the paver accessories you will ever need, including:
- Bullnose Pavers;
- Pool Copers;
- Channel Drains;
- Garden Edges;
- Kerb Blocks;
- Tactile Pavers; and
- Abrasive Resistant Commercial Paver Range.
Quality/Safety
Claypave's reputation and success has been enhanced by our upgraded accreditation to the International Standard for Quality Management Systems, AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008. We have surveillance audits performed by an independent third party (Lloyd's Register of Quality Assurance) approximately every six months to ensure we not only maintain, but continue to improve our Quality System. Since implementing our Quality System we have also incorporated our Safety and Environmental Systems into one Management System which covers all aspects of our business including:
- Product Development;
- Order Taking and Processing;
- Manufacturing Process Control;
- Product Physical Quality Control;
- Staff Recruitment and Training;

Environment
Clay bricks and pavers are considered a "green" building material. We pride ourselves on our environmentally friendly status, as our products are:
- Made from overburden from disused coal mines - we are recycling another industry's waste.
- Fired using natural gas and exceed all emission targets set by the local Environmental Protection Agency.
- Made using reject pavers in the mix.
- Made using re-useable timber pallets.
- Packed with recyclable packaging.
Reputation
Claypave's reputation for quality, innovation and service is vital for our continued success. To ensure we maintain our high reputation any difficulties are handled as quickly and as effciently as possible to keep our customers and their customers satisfied. We regularly contact our customers to keep abreast of what they expect from us in terms of both product and services that we provide.
We recognise that your customer is also our customer.
Innovation and Custom Designs
Claypave changed the face of paving in Australia when we introduced the 40mm domestic paver range, which is now our best selling paver. Our extrusion/repress process allows us to customise paver sizes, shapes and finishes. The introduction of our large format repressed range, a world first, highlights our commitment to exceeding our customers' expectations. We have made special paver shapes, sizes and finishes to meet our customers' specific requirements.
