Warm Underfoot
Cork is a natural insulator of heat and so feels very warm underfoot. In contrast, ceramic tiles for example, are a conductor of heat and tend to absorb the natural body heat from your feet, feeling cold.
Soft To Walk On
As cork is simply millions of aircells trapped in a honey coloured casing, walking on cork tiles is like walking on an air cushion! In addition, many people who have lived on cork will tell you plates or cups dropped on a cork floor will often bounce instead of breaking!
Quiet Underfoot
Cork is naturally an excellent insulator of sound making it very quiet to walk on.
The natural characteristics of cork make cork floors an excellent choice for any residential or light commercial application.
A Lifetime Floor
When you're purchasing a cork floor, you're purchasing a floor for life. If you maintain your floor well, your cork floor will often look as good in 30 or 40 years as it did the day it was installed. Many cork tiles like MJO Traditional, and MJO Atutumn can even be re-sanded throughout their life to remove any stains or minor indentations.
Environmentally friendly
Cork Floor Tiles are incredibly environmentally friendly. Firstly, harvesting a cork oak tree at regular intervals is considered essential for the physiological recovery of the tree. Unlike any other tree, harvesting a cork oak's bark lengthens its life making the harvesting process environmentally friendly.
In addition, cork tiles are effectively manufactured from waste cork. After the bark of the cork oak is harvested and dried, the manufacturing of cork stoppers (for wine bottles etc.) takes place. The fact that cork floor tiles are made from the waste of an already environmentally friendly resource makes them even more environmentally friendly!
Easy to Clean and Maintain
Cork floors are very easy to keep clean and maintain. The occasional sweep & light wash will keep your floor clean, whilst occasionally polishing or re-coating your cork floor will replenish the coated surface as it wears throughout the years. In fact, in years gone by, Choice Magazine named cork floors the easiest floorcovering to keep clean and maintain.
